Though I live about 400 miles to the north of Orange County, I've visited the attractions there many times since childhood. It's weird to see it in the news: Former O.C. police chief, five others indicted on Capitol riot conspiracy charges ...

Two Orange County extremists — a former police chief and his partner in organizing Stop the Steal rallies — have been indicted along with members of the Three Percenters militia for their roles in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Many people believe California is a completely liberal state where everyone is a vegan, a Democrat, and a college educated elite. It's not true. We have our conservative enclaves and though O.C. is a wonderful place of beaches and parks, it's also very right-wing ...

Orange County is located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area .... The county is a tourist center, with attractions like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Modjeska House, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Yost Theater, Bowers Museum, Balboa Island, Angel Stadium, Downtown Santa Ana, Crystal Cove State Park, the Honda Center, and several popular beaches along its more than 40 miles (64 km) of coastline ....

Orange County has long been known as a Republican stronghold and has consistently sent Republican representatives to the state and federal legislatures — so strongly so, that Ronald Reagan described it as the place that "all the good Republicans go to die." .... Orange County has produced such notable Republicans as President Richard Nixon .... In the 1970s and 1980s, Orange County was one of California's leading Republican voting blocs and a subculture of residents with "Middle American" values that emphasized capitalist religious morality in contrast to West coast liberalism.

But now it's not just Republocans in O.C. - it's QAnon advocates, anti-vaxxers, militia members. Depressing that such a beautiful area is so riddled with conservarive extremism.
