Moonlight Becomes You

- Lamour, Crosby and Hope

When I was a little kid I saw an old movie on tv - Road to Morocco, starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour, and Anthony Quinn. I forgot the storyline but I really liked one of the songs - Moonlight Becomes You - and I still sing it to Kermit :) Here is a YouTube of it, with lyrics below that ....

Moonlight becomes you, it goes with your hair
You certainly know the right thing to wear
Moonlight becomes you, I'm thrilled at the sight
And I could get so romantic tonight

You're all dressed up to go dreaming
Now don't tell me I'm wrong
And what a night to go dreaming
Mind if I tag along

If I say I love you
I want you to know
It's not just because there's moonlight
Although, moonlight becomes you so

------ instrumental break ------

You're all dressed up to go dreaming
Now don't tell me I'm wrong
And what a night to go dreaming
Mind if I tag along

If I say I love you
I want you to know
It's not just because there's moonlight
Although, moonlight becomes you so

I had that song on an LP by Johnny Mathis when I was a teenager, and I've loved it ever since.

After I had my first child I realized how many romantic songs could apply to other kinds of love. I sang to Suzanne all the time, and one of our favorites was "So Happy Together." ("Imagine me and you....I do.....")

Hi Susan,

Yeah, after the cats first came to live here, I realized singing to them made them feel safe. Some of their favorites are Johhny Mathis songs like Just Because and Misty.

Hey, good timing. I just got Willie Nelson's album called Moonlight Becomes You. He sings that and several other similar tunes.

Thanks for the video!

Nice. Bing was so smooth, and he was right. Dorothy certainly knew the right thing to wear.

William, Now you've done it - I have a Willy Nelson version of it in my head and that's just so wrong :)

Jeff,

Yeah, and Bing looks so young in that movie. I always imagine him older.

Hey, Willie's version isn't bad. Though, obviously, he sure doesn't have the smooth, deep tone of Bing. I notice, though, that he sticks pretty close to Bing's version in the way he does it, so I'm guessing he was influenced by that one.
