Behold Ascension Day begun
At Burgos
- Arthur Symons
Miraculous silver-work in stone
Against the blue miraculous skies,
The belfry towers and turrets rise
Out of the arches that enthrone
That airy wonder of the skies.
Softly against the burning sun
The great cathedral spreads its wings;
High up, the lyric belfry sings.
Behold Ascension Day begun
Under the shadow of those wings!

Oh my gosh, I completley forgot it was Ascension Thursday! Thank you... Holy day of obligation...
El Cid rocks! :)
Funny, I never made it to Burgos.
Hi Jeff,
It's strange - I think it's not Ascension Day until next sunday for us on the west coast.
Liam, I'd not heard of it until I saw the poem. I didn't realize El Cid was there.
Whew! Yes not til Sunday here. I think its a Bishop thing. Hate to miss those holy days of obligation, a phrase that had never entered my mind til the tender age of 55.
Holy day of obligation just sounds wrong - an oxymoron somehow :)
No matter how we slice "IT" we've all got 'free will' right Crystal?
Victor, that's what I think, yes.
The cathedral at Burgos is very impressive. Unfortunately, I saw it after having walked all day long on the Camino, and La Reina and I were pretty exhausted. Still, I have good memories.
You've actually been somewhere Liam hasn't! :)
