The news is full of the US military's retreat from Afghanistan, and I am reminded of a similar situation: I was 23 when the US withdrew from Vietnam and Saigon fell in April of 1975 ...
I have mixed feelings. I'm afraid it is going to end up similar to Vietnam. And I really hope the US government will take care of the people who helped their effort, such as interpreters. We are honor bound to do that. But 20 years have gone by, and I'm not sure anything has really been gained, or that it could be gained by spending another 20 years, and more service people's lives.

Yeah, it's conflicting. No one wants to stay there, but I'm sure the women and girls especially will suffer.
