A really interesting 60 Minutes episode about AI and Google. I'm not sure if I'm glad or sad that because I'm so old, I'll miss the AI ascendance and resulting apocalypse ;)
I guess I'm a little bit of a Luddite at heart. The question was asked, will AI diminish humanity? My reaction was, yes, of course it will! I am thinking of things that we used to have in our bodies, that are just vestigal now, like the appendix, or the tailbone, or wisdom teeth. We don't need them any more, and the only thing they do is cause trouble occasionally. What if we no longer need to think, and our brains just become vestigal? Now I could be proven wrong, maybe AI will solve the problem of cold fusion, and we'll have free energy forever. Or figure out how to eliminate starvation and homelessness and cancer. But I'm feeling justna bit redundant, like the things we've accomplished so far just really pale in comparison to AI.
I'm worried about it too. They will be able to help in so many ways, like in medicine, etc. It's disturbing, though, that the AI chat bot thing lies ... it made up information that didn't exist. How do you "teach" machines/programs to have a moral compass when they can write their own code. And when they realize that they are way smarter than us and don't need us for anything, what will they do then? But there really is not way to stop the progress on this.
