The way they cynically spin this is, that supposedly these people already have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. And if the virus doesn't get them, something else will. To count them will just make the numbers look bad. And we can't have that.
If this virus has done one thing, it's revealed pretty starkly how nihilistic Trump and his Republican minions really are.
