Trump: terrorist

So, while this was the most bipartisan impeachment vote/verdict ever (7 Republicans voted to impeach), Trump was still acquitted.

Mitch McConnell gave a speech after the vote, explaining that though he voted to acquitt, he thought Trump was indeed guilty of inciting the riot ...

And though Trump got off, history will now have a detailed record of what Trump did, thanks to the House impeachment managers.

Trump, after the acquital, promised ominously that his movement ‘has only just begun’.

It is time we acknowledged something: the former president of the United States is now, for all intents and purposes, the leader of a terrorist organization composed of armed militias, white supremacist groups, QAnon, etc. Trump will use that organization to try to regain political power. This isn't the end, this is the beginning.

I view the Party of Trump as a ship that is no longer seaworthy. It didn't get sunk, but is so damaged that it is only held together by duct tape. No one who isn't deluded or crazy would bet their future on it. Time to abandon ship.

But it seems, at least from the news, that Republican voters are still very loyal to Trump. And because so many Republican politicians want to keep their voters, they will bend the knee to him. Look at Kevin McCarthy, who went from being mad at Trump on the day of the riot, to going down to Florida to kiss his ring days later. The Republican voters seem to be running the show.

What I don't get is that Trump would (and has)thrown all of them under the bus in a heartbeat. He has done nothing to earn their loyalty, quite the opposite. It's like Stockholm Syndrome. I read it called Mar a Lago Syndrome someplace.

Yeah, I constantly ask myself why they (the voters) like him so much. It's not like he had any great policies or programs that made all their lives better. All I can come up with is that they believe he gives them permission to be themselves, with all their cruelties and stupidities - denying climate change, hating immigrants and people of color and the "elites", wanting women's rights to go back to the 50s, wanting their vision of religion to "win" over others, etc. They are filled with hate and Trump feeds that and tells them they are right and good.

PS - and for some Trump followers, there maybe isn't a rational reason why they like him. If you can believe that most Democrats and celebrities are part of a global satanic blood-drinking pedophile ring, then you are batsh*t crazy and normal rules don't applu.
