Be not afraid
Watching the news about Ukraine is so depressing. Russia committing war crimes against civilians, taking over nuclear power plants, threatening thermonuclear war on the west. And what are we doing? We're standing behind Ukraine, way way behind them, taking yauchts away from oligarcs.
This is like a domestic violence situation writ large. A man terrorizes and brutalizes his wife and children. They spend their days trying to keep him calm, finding him emotional off-ramps so he won't feel emasculated and beat them all to death. They can't go for help because he's told them that would mean their deaths, and maybe the deaths of those who try to intercede. So they live as slaves, their one main hope being that they might somehow survive long enough to outlive the monster.
We shouldn't let this be the fate of the Ukrainians, all because we are too scared to stand up to a bully.

I don't think Putin is going to turn into a good person once he's done with Ukraine - we could well be in WW3 in the future because of him. The way of appeasement didn't go so well in WW2.
Oh I'm not under any illusions that Putin is ever going to change his ways. He wants all the old USSR back. I learned a new word lately "revanchist". It describes him to a T. It's someone who wants what they feel was taken from them, and who also wants revenge. I'm hoping the sanctions may make his own people turn against him. Russian dictators have been replaced in the past. Didn't the Politburo used to exercise a lot of control? Not sure if that still exists.

Great video. I saved it to show my sister :) I saw in the news this morning that Putin is "warning" the west about doing a no-fly zone in Ukraine. There isn't a good answer to what's happening, but if this was the US that was being destroyed, I'd hate the countries that weren't doing all they could to stop that.
