Giorgia Meloni

Republican politicians and activists are thrilled about the win by Italian neo-fascist candidate Giorgia Meloni.

This reminds me of Steve Bannon's effort to run a conservative religious/political "academy" in an old Italian monastery, Trisulti Charterhouse (The Last Stand at Steve Bannon’s “Gladiator School”). The Italian government stopped him, but now that his good buddy Meloni has won, maybe she'll fix it for him.

It's not just Bannon - Meloni spoke at CPAC, like Viktor Orbán, and the likes of Ted Cruz, Mike Pompeo, and Marjorie Taylor Greene have been cheering her election win (A Lot of Republicans Are Super Impressed With Italy’s New Far-Right Leader).

The new Republican party - enamored of fascism. What could go wrong?

Just goes to show women can be just as authoritarian as men. I don't understand why there is such a wave of that kind of thinking now. Did they forget what WWII was about? Maybe just fear...of everything, even though we have it better than our ancestors did.

Check out Michael Sean Winters' column today. Turns out Meloni isn't even very religious, she just talks the talk to get points with the religious right types.

Interesting article. I think far right politicians like Meloni and the guys here mostly see Christianity as a mechanism to advance themselves politically, but they sure don't practice it.
