May Day

When it's the first day of May, this song pops into my head. I don't especially like it, but there it is.

From the 1967 movie Camelot that I saw as an impressionable teen. Vanessa Redgrave singing.

I wanted to see it because I was a fan of all the Camelot books, like The Once and Future King by T. H. White and Mary Stewart's Merlin trilogy that started with The Crystal Cave.

Still, the movie and the stories it's based on are pretty sad - by the end, everyone's happiness is destroyed. Maybe that's part of what makes it so memorable.

We did Camelot for a high school musical, back in the day. I was one of the ladies in waiting. We sang "Guinevere, Guinevere, in that dim, mournful year..." My mom was mad she had to sew a costume. It was funny, some of the guys penciled on a mustache with eyebrow pencil. During dress rehearsal one couple came back from break with pencil marks smeared on their lips. LOL, the good old days.

Sounds like fun. I took part in high school plays too, but as a make0up person, the one putting the eyebrow pencil on the actors ;) The first time i encountered greasepaint.
