I remember reading Black Beauty too, when I was a kid.
My grandma had a book called Pussy Meow that had been given to her as a child. The narrators were a family of cats. It was meant to teach children to be kind to animals.
Yeah, I read those kind of books then too. I remember one called "Lad, A Dog" about a collie.
