Kermit

Kermit passed away today. She went in for an operation to look at her throat to see why she couldn't swallow food, and they found a tumor. They could still have put in a feeding tube but I thought she might suffer too much and so they didn't wake her up from the anesthesia. I don't know if I made the right choice - maybe I let her down and did what was easier for myself. I miss her so much, can't ever talk to her naymore, can't ever pet he again, or see her little face again.

Crystal I'm really sorry to hear that; it must be a really sad day for you.

I know it's tough when situations like this come along. We've had to face this with a couple of the beagles we've had. Hang in there!

I'm so, so sorry Crystal. That's awful. I'll keep you in my prayers. Please don't second-guess yourself on your decision. You didn't want Kermit to suffer.

It's probably the last thing you want to hear right now, but please consider (at some point) a new kitten. Kermit can't ever be replaced, but you shouldn't be alone either.

Crystal,
I'm very very sorry to hear that. It sounds like it was time for Kermit.

I agree with Jeff -- don't second-guess yourself.

I am so sorry, Crystal, believe me I know the hurt that must lie in you heart. But she is free now, and her spirit will live forever in you memories.

I think Jeff is right, and I made you an offer some time ago, it still stands. When you find the right kitten, let me know and a check will be in the mail.

That was a beautiful picture you posted, I will remember her that way.

LOve and hugs,

Mike L

When our daughter’s horse had to be euthanized a few years ago our vet said that he had developed a sense for when an animal was ready to go. Our old mare was ready; she had borne our daughter faithfully and safely for many years. But none of us were ready, especially my daughter. It is so sad and difficult that these little friends and good companions must pass away, but they can only travel with us so far. As painful as it is, it seems to be the way of things that we should be there when they die because if we go first what would they do? It’s good that Kermit had some one who cared enough to be there and make a hard and necessary decision when the time came. Thank you for your blog Crystal its eclectic good nature has made my own Catholic journey easier and much more rewarding. I think you do important work here, please don’t be too sad too long. Rich

As everyone else, I feel deeply for you. I've hated saying goodbye to everyone of the furry friends that have blessed our home. Peace be with you Crystal, and with Kermit too.

Crystal,

I know it has to be very sad and painful for you. But you did the right thing. And Kermit knows that - she knows how much you loved her.

Wish I could offer more words of encouragement. Hang in there.

Give yourself some time to grieve. And do get another cat. You have too much love to give! That cat will need you.

We'll keep you - and Kermit - in our prayers.

Just thinking about you, Crystal, knowing that there is a hole in your life and an emptiness in you house, and wishing there was something that Susannah and I could do about it. We know all too well the feeling of finding an empty cat bed, or starting to get the food bowl and then realizing that there is no longer a need.

The emptiness does pass, and gets filled with fond memories, and eventually we can even laugh at some of the antics that our small friends pulled that amused us at the time, and will again in the future.

I think in time you will be grateful that you had Kermit to love and by loved by, and that is far better than never having had her as a companion.

Susannah and I grieve with you, and we send our prayers and love and thanks for all that you have given us.

Love and hugs,

Mike L

Mike,

Thanks for thinking of me. That;s just what it's like - I woke up this morning and I had no reason to get out of bed. It feels awful. My sister came over today after work and we talked about Kermit and looked at old pictures - that helped. I miss Kermit so much, it's hard to realize she's only been gone one day.

Oh, Crystal, I'm so sorry. We can't expect them to go on forever, but I know how heart-wrenching it is to let them go.

I hope you can stop second-guessing your decision. There's no question that you saved Kermit immeasurable suffering. I don't think any of us would want to linger with terminal cancer, being fed through a tube. And it would be infinitely harder for a cat, who can't understand what's happening to her.

I have no doubt that she's still around, Crystal, loving you and grateful to you.

I am so sorry you have lost your beloved pet Kermit. I think you made the right choice on her behalf. You gave her a very good life with lots of love and tender care.

I know this is too soon for you to think about, but I hope the day comes when you go out and adopt another pet. Kermit would want you to do that.

Hi Mike,

You are more than welcome for the thoughts, Crystal, just wish we could do more.

Susannah and I certainly understand being in a sad place, one needs time to mourn a lost friend. But don't stay there too long, the rest of us miss you.

Perhaps you could share some funny stories about Kermit with us? Did she ever get up on a chair and then chase her tail like Amber does once in a while? What where her favorite foods? Amber loves lettuce and spinach, we cannot leave a salad unprotected!

Much love and care from all of us.

Hugs,

Mike

Hey Crystal,

How are you doing?

Mike made me laugh with the lettuce eating cat story and then I remembered that my husband had a cat who LOOOOOVED Kentucky Fried Chicken ;)

Thinking about you . . .

Amber not only eats lettuce, but when the grass outside is green I sometimes think that she has cow blood in her the way she grazes. Oliver hit the cabinet for cheese tonight, but we had one cat, Pushka, that would kill for cantaloupe. The only time she ever got up on the table was if we left cantaloupe on it. She also loved yoghurt ad Susannah would have to feed her some on the side or she would have her nose in the carton. Funny how different cats love different things.

Susannah and I still miss your words, Crystal, we are waiting for you to come out and play.

Love and hugs,

Mike L

Mike,

I've heard of cats liking fruit and veggies but mine never seemed to - they didn't even like daity products and the few times they tried milk, they usually threw up. They did like grass, though. For a while I grew those pots of indoor grass for them.

I'm back to blogging - thanks for talking to me so much and keeping my spirits up.
