I'm reading A Death in Vienna by Daniel Silva, in which Israeli agent Gabriel Allon visits Yad Vashem to read for the first time his dead mother's recounting of the horrible time she spent in Auschwitz II-Birkenau under the brutal supervision of a Nazi named Erich Radek, the same man Gabriel later learns was helped to escape prosecution as a war criminal by Catholic bishop Alois Hudal (who in real life did indeed help many Nazi war criminals to escape justice with his "ratline" in Rome).

I bring this up because I had read today that the Pope's preacher has compared the criticism of the pope's handling of the sex abuse problem to the awfulness of anti-Semitism.
