I Can't Explain

Watching the news is so depressing. Health care workers are still overwhelmed with coronavirus cases, while at the same time not having adequate PPE and getting sick and dying themselves. People in nursing homes, prisons, veterans homes, and weirdly, meat packing plants, are dying like flies. The federal government is worse than useless in the fight against the pandemic, and red states are planning to relax stay-at-home orders, because we can't expect those old Republican guys to go without their "massages".

One thing that distracts me during this awful time is my "for you" news at Google. It has the strangest idea of what I need to know. Today it wanted me to be aware that famous Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page actually was a session player on a lot of songs by other musicians before he joined Led Zeppelin. One of the songs he worked on (but didn't make the record?) was I Can't Explain by the Who ...

About the meat plants, I am totally not surprised. We have a lot of them in my state, Nebraska. They were tardy in instituting safe practices; they waited until people got the virus before they did anything much about it. And our governor didn't hold the companies accountable. Now we have a mess on our hands, with case counts nearly doubling in less than a week. One of the problems is that the work stations were nearly elbow to elbow, with no separations. Now they have stretched out distances between workers and installed plastic shields between. Everyone is upposed to wear masks and protective clothing. Too bad they couldn't have done that to begin with. And I'm not sure how good communication was with workers since a lot of them are not English speakers.
I know you are vegetarian and there's something to be said for that. But if they're going to process meat at least they should do it right and protect workers.

Rachel Maddow has been mentioning for some time about the problem at the meat processing plant in Souix Falls, South Dakota. The governor there refused to do anything - no stay at home orders, no protection for the workers even after that plant became the largest hot spot for cases in the country. Now it's closed but meanwhile a bunch more meat processing plants are having problems ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYTHZWt7T5c
