The West Bank as a prop

New York congressional candidate Brad Lander says he was detained by IDF in the occupied West Bank

So, people from foreign countries (US and UK) come to another country, Israel, to take part in continuing, and sometimes violent, altercations between different groups in the West Bank. They are detained by the army/police, probably to prevent possible confrontations, and then let go. What else did they expect?

I'd say that is exactly what they expected ... a photo op and story to help Brad Lander, himself Jewish and a former member of the Democratic Socialists of America now running in New York City, to win his upcoming election.

Perhaps they would say they are trying to get publicity for the problem? Certainly there has been a lot of publicity ... the situation was just on a segment from 60 Minutes, as well as the story/vidoes of the journalist from The Washington Post being attacked.

There are real problems in the West Bank with violence by Israeli settlers, but how does using the situation as a political gimick in the US help fix them? I don't think it's meant to. I think the problems in the West Bank are ideal political wedges for those in the Democratic party who want to win votes.
