There have been discussions about how Congress should facilitate Trump's departure. Some want him to be allowed to finish out his last few days without interference. Some want him to resign, and have Pence then pardon him. Some are hoping for Pence and the Cabinet to relieve Trump of command with the 25th amendment. But most Democrats want to see him once again impeached, and I'm one of them. Why?
First of all, we can't just do nothing ... he is a danger to the country and God only knows what he might do in the time he has left. And as for him resigning and getting pardoned by Pence ... he does not deserve a pardon, he needs to somehow pay for what he's done. And Pence will not invoke the 25th amendment ... Trump already has his zombie horde after Pence as it is.
But if he is impeached, there is one big benefit ... Trump will not longer have the option of holding office again.
Congress should impeach Trump again and bar him from holding any future public office
[...] The Constitution’s Article I, Section 3 provides for “disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States” as a penalty for an impeachable offense. And critically, while removal from office requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate, disqualification is different ....
Would the Senate vote to impeach Trump? They didn't last time, except for Romney, but I think this time would be different, if only because there are a number of Republican senators who want to run for president in 2024, but can't if Trump decides to run for president again.
Conservatives say we shouldn't impeach because it will cause division in the country. Seriously? That ship sailed a long time ago, and was dyed in the wool when Trump urged his followers to ransack the Capitol.
Impeach him.
